UK PM Rishi Sunak is challenged to go Vegan for a Month: Offered Money is £1M

January 06, 2023

Gen V has launched their ‘million-dollar campaign’ by challenging UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to go vegan for one month. They have promised to gift him a charitable £1M for the sake of the betterment of our animals, our planet, our health, our farmers, and ultimately our future.

What is Veganism?

Veganism tends to exclude any kind of animal products not only non-veg for ethical, health, and environmental reasons. Though at first glance, a vegan diet might overwhelm you or seem complicated or even may be overly restrictive, once you understand the concept of it and the reason driven by it the transaction will be smoother for you. Also, as you start enjoying the vegan diet there are multiple replacements for all your favourite foods.

Why Rishi Sunak?

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has pledged to protect the future of our planet and has spoken many times about the importance of compassion. With climate, environmental, and health crises heading further and further north the numbers of animal victims of our dietary choices are also increasing like hellfire. According to the CEO of GenV, Naomi Hallum said that “we felt it was time to encourage this world leader to follow his words with meaningful action.”

Why Veganism is important?

For the Climate Crisis

The World Health Organization has addressed global warming and climate change as the ‘greatest threat to global health in the 21st century’. Animal agriculture is directly responsible for at least 16% of all man-made greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. According to research if everyone starts eating plant-based, our food-related GHG emissions would drop by at least 70%. Isn’t this our moral duty towards future generations?

To Restore Lost Wildlife

The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world. Even Uk Agriculture is the primary land user, with animal agriculture using 85% of the land which provides only 32% of our calories and less than half of the protein. In order to feed the same number of people according to a plant-based diet we would require just one-sixth of the land, leaving 14.5 million hectares for nature. It is very rightfully said that the earth can heal itself all we have to do is let it put to rest and not disturb it much.

For British Farmers

Though Animal agriculture is one of the main causes of the climate crisis, all farming is vulnerable to its impacts. Progressive farmers are already moving away from nurturing animals in favour of farming and growing crops to feed people, and many farmers wish to join them in their new technology-based farming. In fact, according to a recent survey, it is found that 64% of respondents would consider opting out of animal agriculture entirely provided financial support was in place.

For Our Health

Animal farms are implicated in both the growth of antibiotic-resistant pathogens and the emergence and spread of viral pandemics. Not only that, lifestyle diseases are a significant burden to the NHS but they are largely preventable. Adopting a plant-based diet is associated with decreased risk of cardiovascular disease, preventing type 2 diabetes, and has also been associated with much lower rates of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and cancer.

Why this Particular challenge?

To Get PM Rishi Sunak’s Attention.

Alongside full-page adverts in four major UK newspapers, Gen V is taking over Westminster’s underground station with thousands of posters, all urging the Prime Minister to accept the offer and to eat vegan for one month. Gen V has also commissioned a prominent wall in Shoreditch to be custom-painted to further elevate the campaign, and we’ll be at Parliament and Downing Street in the coming days with some eye-catching stunts and activities.

Why Give One Of The Richest Men £1 Million?

Well, it might seem a little unusual or say funny in a way to offer such an amount to one of the richest men in the country. But it's not like Gen V is not giving £1,000,000 to Rishi Sunak himself. They have offered to give this hideous amount directly to a charity of his choice.

With Britain in the grip of a cost-of-living crisis and many people unable to feed themselves or pay their heating bills, the hope is that he will take this challenge, eat vegan for one month, and make them donate the money to a charity that helps people, the planet, and animals. So, in a nutshell, it is a movement that might change the course of diet throughout the United Kingdom, all for the sake of the greater good.

Why Should PM Sunak accept the challenge?

Gen V is offering the Prime Minister £1 million to donate to a charity of his choice in exchange for going plant-based for one month. Mr Prime Minister should actually consider taking this challenge as it offers to support his government’s commitment to steering the country towards a better future.

Adopting a plant-based diet is one of the best things that can be done to champion British farmers and the countryside while meeting emission reduction commitments and supporting public health. It would support small-scale farmers who are the most vulnerable to climate and ecological breakdown, and who are being pushed out by the rise of factory farms. It could also reverse our biodiversity crisis, as shifting to feeding the nation on a plant-based diet would require around 75% less land; land that could be restored and rewilded.
