With this in context, many people try to turn vegan, but as simple as it sounds, people are still confused about what Veganism exactly is? Well, to put Veganism in simple words, it is a way of living in which people exclude all forms of exploitation and cruelty. Though in this combined world, it is quite hard to put a full stop to all forms of exploitation and cruelty, it can be said that people avoid that as much as possible.

The biggest problem that individuals trying to adopt veganism face is, confusing it with vegetarianism. Becoming a vegetarian is different to becoming a vegan. A person who is vegetarian does not consume any meat. However, they do consume dairy products and the products which might be derived from the animals, such as leather. Veganism has some ethical background to its origin. They believe that every creature has the right to live and has the freedom to live their life the way they want. Vegans oppose the psychological and physical stress that animals endure during catering to serve humans.

You will know that it means not to kill for your benefit. It is analogous to killing, where we have a choice not to kill and let people live. So, it all boils down to one thing, that is, the feeling and philosophy of compassion and being considerate to every other living being.

There is always this argument that states that humans have the right to eat meat and use products which are derived from the animals. However, we do forget the rights which these animals have and how these rights have the same importance as the rights, we as humans have. With this, we can see the definition of Veganism extending to humans. We can always see how humans find themselves superior, and for that, they think they have some edge over the non-humans. This superiority complex is a reality, and we can see how we are trying to dominate other animals.

However, with Veganism, we can show our compassion toward animals which can change the world. Incorporating humans into the definition, we get, "Veganism is a lifestyle where humans do not use any products or derivatives of other animals in their day-to-day lifestyle, ensuring that everyone has the equal right to live."

Types of Vegans

Depending on the lifestyle vegans follow, vegans can be categorized into the following types:

  • Dietary vegans: These follow a completely vegan diet or plant-based diet only.
  • Whole-food vegans: The people who follow diet rich in whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, etc., can be called as Whole-food vegans
  • Raw Food vegans: The people who only consume a raw plant-based diet are called Raw Food vegans.
  • Low Fat Raw Food Vegans: Also known as fruitarians, who only consume fruits or follow a plant-based diet which contains low fat.

The vegan diet is said to be healthy and lead to a lifestyle which is ethical, healthy and environmentally friendly. Going Vegan not only provides a lot of variety in your diet but also contributes largely to restoring the Earth's natural resources.
